No finer place to be on the first of October, my favorite month, than Carmel, an aroma of pine, an ocean breeze and a hint of Halloween to come.
And a good omen in the form of a grackle.
This songbird of the blackbird family (reputedly cleverer than a crow) caught my eye and, from a mere three feet away, initiated a lengthy chat.
Forty-five minutes later, he (or she) reappeared a quarter-mile away to sternly reconvene our conversation, with an expression as if to say, I’m not done with you yet.
Of course, I had to look up the grackle’s spiritual meaning.
The appearance of a grackle in your life can have a variety of spiritual meanings relating to good luck, divine strength, protection, adaptability, appreciating what is around you, the importance of reassessing what is important to you, divine wisdom, letting go of negative emotions that no longer serve you, emotional balance, and trusting first impressions.
Or maybe I’ve found a new home…
