Several news organizations are reporting that Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev desires to sell his stake in AS Monaco, the principality’s soccer team.
Rybolovlev has been the majority shareholder since 2011.
Most likely reason: Moneyval, an arm of the Council of Europe, has criticized the principality’s “deficiencies, shortcomings and weaknesses” in regard to compliance with their anti-money laundering program.
Which translates to more heat on Monaco’s money launderers from within so that the principality can avoid being placed on the Council’s “grey list” of deficient countries.
