This old tree trunk was hanging out on Butterfly 22 years ago when I first moved to Montecito.
Of course it was a lot bigger back then. Time and the elements have taken its toll, as they do on people and all things, whittling them down. Impermanence.
On my early a.m. jaunt, I noticed the old trunk, somewhat lighter now, recently transitioned from Butterfly to Hammond’s Beach, other side of the Coral Casino. (Perhaps it needed a new identity.)
Hands down, the finest dining experience in Montecito.
Montecito abounds with trees. (This is a Brazilian Pine.)
We breathe their phytoncides every day and, combined with salt air, the breathing is oh so fine.
