REFLECTION, RUMINATION & RHETORIC FROM THE ROAD: DEPARTURE
Or: Travels with Lulu (Homage to John Steinbeck)
Been a long while since hitting it. The weather’s just been too good in Montecito to be anyplace else all winter and half of spring. And the longer you’re ensconced in a comfort zone the harder it is to pull away, break loose and set your soul free.
First stop rolling south is In-N-Out just off I-5 south of Santa Clarita, a burger for Lulu. (Me too, road fuel.)
Then east onto Route 14, Lancaster and precious Palmdale, methamphetamine headquarters of the world.
A few twists, turns and many miles later later Barstow looms into view…
This is where Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas begins.
And this is how he saw it…
It’s not hard to notice when the Nevada state line approaches…
Until finally we roll into a desert oasis know as…
…and after six hours on the road Lulu is…
…relieved.
Me too.
