Since I stayed at The Advenire twice last September (coming and going) on a road trip in search of autumn, this hotel feels more like home than anywhere I’ve been since launching from SB almost six weeks ago.
Part of the reason I chose to return here for an overnight—our penultimate destination before arriving back where we started—is a bar in nearby Ancestor Square called Spiritual. (The ice cream parlor in this historical, quaint zone, named for Mormon pioneer Brigham Young, is called Bee Sweet, a few steps away from Feellove Coffee.)
As its name might suggest, the theme of this bar’s interior design is… spirituality. As such, it is decorated with signs and symbols and replica artifacts that represent spiritual beliefs.
Spiritual’s head bartender, John, is masterful and, in addition to knowing the history of cocktails, has crafted a few of his own with names like Holy Grail, Skull Chapel and False Idol.
I settled for a Negroni, which John stirred to perfection with The Botanist gin and Antica sweet vermouth (plus Campari, of course), equal measures.
While sipping this elixir, I reached for my iPhone to video John shaking two cocktails at once—a truly dramatic performance.
What thereafter appeared on my phone strongly suggested that this bar’s name, theme and decor is a masquerade for disguising dark energy.
Next stop: The Painted Pony, which I highly recommend, especially for their bacon wrapped dates stuffed with almonds and bleu cheese.
This was our server…
(Alas, I left my brush and white paint in the hotel room.)
Thereafter, another reason for returning to St. George: The Advenire’s rooftop hot tub with a view.
Now, that’s spiritual.
